Household Carpet Cleaning

You have a rug in your house but you have no idea how to get started with it’s maintenance work.

When it comes to cleaning carpets, generally there are two methods for it: Dry cleaning (Chemical Cleaning) and Steam Cleaning. You must remember to consult with a reputable carpet cleaning company to determine which is the best method for your type of carpet. Not all carpets are created equal. Some brands of carpet may also recommend the best or only method to be used. You have to be very sure what you are doing, otherwise you will run into disasters.

While your carpeting may not need the regular cleaning that other types of flooring require, your carpet should be professionally cleaned at least once to every year to 18 months, even if you do vacuum your carpet regularly. Professional carpet cleaning extends the lifespan of the carpeting and contributes to better air quality, reducing allergies and illness.

DIY household carpet cleaning

To save money on maintenance, many people make the erroneous decision of switching between the do-it-yourself (DIY) cleaning and professional cleaning. While the DIY approaches can save you a few bucks, they are almost never as effective as having it done by a professional and it involves a considerable amount of time and hard work. Depending on the method used, it is also easy for the novice to damage the carpet.

Beware of the three most popular DIY methods that will cause damage carpets:

* Over-shampooing
* Over-wetting
* Failing to protect the wet carpet from furniture

The first carpet cleaning ‘no-no’ is over-shampooing and it occurs when either too much shampoo is used or the carpet is not properly rinsed. Both will happen eventually with some wet do-it-yourself approaches. This is the strongest reason why even hard-core DIY should occasionally use a professional. If they don't, the build-up of soapy residue can be impossible to clean out, leaving a carpet that is a virtual dirt magnet.

Over-wetting also happens when too much moisture soaks into the bottom of the carpet. Some backing materials cause the carpet to discolor if they get too moist. If you are not careful, your carpets will shrink, literally tearing themselves up from the floor. If the backing and pad get wet, it is very difficult to dry them, and you will run the additional risk of mold and mildew problems.

The last carpet-cleaning hazard is stains caused by furniture coming into contact with wet carpeting. You have to be careful when dealing with moisture. Many kinds of wood furniture will release some of the dyes in their stain if left in contact with a wet surface and you must take note of that. Many pieces of furniture have feet that are at least partially metal. The metal can rust, leaving an awful stain in the carpet and damage it‘s aesthetics.

A careful examination of Household carpet cleaning reveals that they are more likely to encounter these problems because they often don't remove all the furniture from the room when cleaning, and they often don't have ready access to the foam blocks and foil-backed cardboard squares that the pros use to keep the furniture off the carpet until it is dry.
